HISTORY OF SEWER EXTENSION PROJECT
The Amherst Woods Homeowners Association (AWHA) maintains a substantial amount of Common Property in Amherst Woods. Annual Dues cover the cost of landscaping, storm damage cleanup, insurance, real estate taxes, etc.
Regular maintenance of Common Property helps keep property values high, and at $12.50 per month per household, the $150 per year rate is well below most HOA Dues. NOTE: There is a $20 Discount for early payment and two levels of Late Fees.

FUTURE NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECT
As part of the 2021's Landscaping Upgrade Project, the disintegrating Amherst Woods entrance sign on the corner of Old Farm Road was removed along with overgrown yews on both sides of the sign. Now there's a clean slate for a new design at that location, either a new entrance sign with new landscaping, or just new landscaping. Stay tuned.

BEAR: IF WE FEED THEM, THEY WILL RETURN
If you live in Amherst Woods, chances are that you or a neighbor have been visited by bear. The most common reason for bear visits is bird feeders left out overnight in the Fall/Winter or early Spring when food sources are scarce. With climate change, it's easy to be caught off-guard as seasonal weather patterns shift. Bird feeders always present a temptation to bear for an easy meal, so it is a good idea to bring bird feeders inside overnight whenever possible.

Trashcans left out overnight is the second most common reason for bear visits. If possible, it is recommended that homeowners place trashcans outside early in the morning for pick up rather than leave trashcans outside overnight.

ROBERT FROST TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS
On June 28, 2019, it was announced that the Kestrel Land Trust and the Town of Amherst were awarded a $50,000 grant for improvements to the Robert Frost Trail, some of which runs through the Amherst Woods neighborhood.
Improvements will include long deferred basic maintenance, upgrading select bridges and bog bridging, rerouting sections of trail that are wet, improving or adding parking at trail heads and updating signage.

The project will use professional trail contractors and volunteer trail stewards to accomplish improvements over the two-year period of the grant.
Robert Frost Trail improvements planned.
